Michelle Xiarhos Curran

I have been many things in my life, but nothing compares to the job I have now – raising my boys, Braedan, 4.5, and Colin, 10 months, with my husband, Rich, who is the greatest partner I could ever ask for. Rich and I moved to Newburyport over six years ago, one year to the day we were married in Little Compton, RI, at a beautiful bed and breakfast on the Sakonnet River. Before having children, I worked as a real estate title examiner and prior to that, as a reporter with several local newspapers covering education, politics and general news and features. Way back when, I worked as a paralegal at a mid-size corporate defense firm in Boston, which is where I met my husband in 1997, the year I graduated from college. Today, besides staying at home with the boys, I work as a freelance writer and editor for the Boston Parents Paper. I have also written regularly for Merrimack Valley Magazine and several other local newspapers, magazines and Web sites. In my career, I have hunted ghosts, covered a scandalous murder trial and written about true heartache and joy. I love my job. For 12 years, I have also been “writing” a novel. I am hoping – with some help from the amazing friends in my writer’s group – that 2010 is the year I finish it! I am happy to give back to a club that has helped me meet many of the great friends I have made here in Newburyport. If you have any ideas for the newsletter, please contact me at mlx75@comcast.net.
